Types of Iris Patterns
Your iris is a kaleidoscope of colours and patterns. They are made from unique combinations of pigmented rings, crypts, and furrows. Pigmented rings are wide, coloured bands around the pupil that are a different shade than the rest of your iris. Crypts are tiny diamond-shaped holes in the iris that can range in size. Furrows are a series of pale lines that curve around the iris, and they're produced as the pupil opens and closes in response to light.
Iridology, often referred to as “Eye Reflexology,” is an alternative medicine technique, whose proponents claim that patterns, colours and other characteristics of the iris can be examined to determine information about a patient's systemic health.
Within the intriguing world of iridology, there is a concept called the Rayid Model that outlines four constitutional iris patterns.
The two primary structures are known as Jewel and Flower.
The Jewel
Jewel irises include a presence of dark coloured dots or flecks within the iris. This supposedly suggests that the person has an analytical personality.
It’s very rare for someone to have a pure jewel structure. Most Jewels have a shaker-jewel or stream-jewel pattern.
The Flower
Flowers include curved or rounded openings within the fibres of the iris pattern, which tend to resemble a flower petal. The Rayid model suggests that this personality type is emotional, feeling, and expressive.
Just like Jewels, most Flowers have a combined pattern with a Stream or Shaker. It’s rare to have a pure flower structure.
The secondary patterns are known as Stream and Shaker.
Every person has either one of these two primary iris patterns above, and the secondary pattern is what modifies the primary.
The Stream
This is referred to as the kinesthetic type of iris patterns.
Streams include straight lines or streaks of colour within the iris, suggesting a sensitive, intuitive personality type.
The Shaker
Shaker iris patterns have both dot-like pigments and rounded openings.
This type of pattern suggests a driven, extreme personality.
